Barlow's Foods earns top Flavor of
Georgia honors
tlanta-based Barlow's Foods won the grand prize for its
Barlow's Peach Cobbler Syrup on March 28 at the 2023
Flavor of Georgia Food Product Contest in Athens. The
company creates pancake mixes and other breakfast staples.
Founder and CEO Tiffani Neal named the company after
her grandfather, Arthur " Barlow " Harris. Neal said his passion
for agriculture-combined with her vision for food made with
whole ingredients-led to the launch of Barlow's Foods.
" It's important to us to respect local [ingredients] and
respect farmers. My grandfather was a farmer; we need to know
the people behind our food, " she says.
More than 120 entries were submitted to the University of
Georgia's (UGA) Flavor of Georgia contest, which has helped
launch small, startup food companies and garnered recognition
for established brands since 2007.
During the first round of judging on March 10, 36 finalists
were named. Food experts evaluated the entries based on the
products' Georgia theme, commercial appeal, taste, innovation
and market potential.
The 2023 category winners are:
* Baked goods: Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake from Honey
Specialties, Millen
* Barbecue sauces: Oconee Gold White Gold from Oconee
Creations, Statham
* Beverages: HIBO Energize Original (hibiscus with berry
flavor drink) from HIBO, Bishop
* Condiments, sauces and seasonings: Vidalia Onion Steak
Sauce from Braswell Food Co., Statesboro
* Confections: Pecan Brittle from Brittle Brittle Bakeries,
Fort Gaines

Charcuterie Kit from Jensen Reserve, Loganville
* Miscellaneous: First Press EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil) from
Woodpecker Trail Olive Farm, Glennville
* Pickled vegetables, relish and salsas: Sully's Slammin Mild
Fresh Salsa from Sully's Salsa, Roswell
* Snack foods: Vadouvan Curry Popcorn from Caja Popcorn,
Atlanta
* People's Choice Award (chosen by event attendees): Hot
Honey BBQ Sauce from the Savannah Bee Co., Savannah
As the grand-prize winner, Barlow's Foods was awarded
an exhibit space at the Georgia Food Industry Association
annual convention and three consultation sessions from the
UGA Food Product Innovation and Commercialization Center
in Griffin. All 36 finalists may use the Flavor of Georgia finalist
logo on their product labels and in promotional materials; each
company also received a one-year Georgia Grown membership,
courtesy of the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
