restoration efforts.
In-state mutual-aid crews were joined by thousands of
lineworkers from nationwide.
Throughout the long and tumultuous aftermath of the
hurricane, EMCs continued to communicate with members.
Social media posts shared critical details about how and where
the repairs were being made as well as safety tips for using
generators, information about local food-distribution sites and
photos of the extensive damage. Cooperatives also posted
uplifting stories about the food, supplies, encouragement and
support given to linemen and
other EMC employees, who
were working 16- to 18-hour days.
The communication with members did not go unnoticed.
" I don't know who runs this page, but I'll tell you it's
some of the most elite communication I've ever experienced
as a member, " Excelsior EMC member Amanda Peetoom
commented on an Oct. 2 post. " The fact that you all make
communication a top priority during a natural disaster says
a ton about the leadership at Excelsior EMC.
" I understand the days are long, and sometimes the
complaints feel so heavy that it's easy to forget how many people
are so grateful for the work every single one of you are doing.
We see you and hear you. No amount of words can thank y'all
enough. I'm proud to be a member! "
As of press time, some cooperatives continued to face days and even weeks of work to restore power to
all of their members. Recovery from Hurricane Helene is ongoing in many areas.
While linemen were out restoring
power, armies of EMC employees
were working long hours as well
to support the local crews and
those from other parts of the
state and country. In posting
