FINE JAMS
Artisan jams are excellent for both personal and
company gift-giving. Located in Blairsville, Janice
Walters' Appalachian Kitchens offers a tasty assembly
of wine- and spirit-infused jams. Her hand-crafted
jams work when spread on a hot buttered biscuit and
also make a fine glaze for grilled meats, especially
duck or pork. Some jams come with a " kick " of heat
from either jalapeño or habanero peppers. She
recommends drizzling a favorite jam on cheesecake
and supplies recipes for using the jams in cookies and
a roast. Price: $8 for an 8-ounce jar.

BEAN-TO-BAR CHOCOLATE
Atlanta-based Lewis Pogue Artisan Chocolate emphasizes high-quality raw
materials and ethically sourced ingredients from around the globe. The familyrun
firm is one of only a few Southern bean-to-bar chocolate companies.
Handmade bars using organic, single-origin cacao beans are the starting point
for these morsels. Flavors include peppermint crunch, hot spice, cardamom,
coffee and honeycomb, and there's cocoa powder and baking chocolate as
well. Prices: $5 for mini bars; $10 to $12 for 2-ounce (57 grams) bars.

JOY WITH JEWELRY
Maya Griffi n, known professionally as Maya Joy,
studied studio art at the University of California in
Santa Cruz. Under her business name, Maya Joy in
the World, she makes earrings, pins, magnets,
greeting cards, necklaces, prints and more based on
her original drawings. The
jewelry is nickel-free, and the
designs refl ect respect for
material integrity (silver, gold,
brass or bronze) and wearability.
She also sells books of poetry
that she writes. Griffi n's jewelry is
sold online and in several shops
throughout North Georgia.

Waycross musician Stephen
Head creates handmade
percussion instruments such
as cajons (Peruvian box-type
drums) that would delight the
budding musician (and the
musical parent). Head has been
making percussion instruments
through his business, Kopf
Percussion, since 2008. Head
says he can build " just about
anything you can imagine " in
percussion instruments.
Specialty instruments include a
stomp box, which is played
with the foot and " makes a
kick-drum-type sound. " Prices:
