using that data to make informed decisions. The software used to run
the Unchained Labs Freeslate systems collects all the sample processing information and the analytical results. This Laboratory Execution and Analysis (LEA) software package controls the Freeslate
systems and integrates analytical data, including data generated
outside of the automation platform. The ability of LEA to synthesize
data from equipment integrated physically or virtually provides even
greater power to assess data from multiple analytic instruments.
A Freeslate system automates many workflows common to
formulation development and analytical testing labs. Robots and
instruments are connected and configured for each customer's
workflow. Every Freeslate system removes manual steps to
speed up lab work and liberate scientists to focus on more valuable
tasks (Figure 1). One robot prepares the formulations and measures
pH, viscosity, visible particles, color and turbidity. The other robot
performs sample processing, stressing and analysis (DLS and UV/
Vis, etc.). The Freeslate system can be configured to handle a
variety of formats from 384-well microplates to 20-mL serum
vials. Powerful LEA software enables instrument control, data
collection, data management and reporting. By combining all these
activities, the Freeslate system supports the entire formulation
development process from preformulation to late-stage
formulation for biologics.
