Even the most frequently seen conditions in oral pathology may be
diagnostically challenging to clinicians who do not encounter them
with regularity. This workshop demonstrates how to identify common innocuous and more seldom seen, but clinically significant lesions. This includes learning atypical presentations that vary from
classic textbook pictures. The hands-on portion is designed to allow
attendees to feel comfortable performing uncomplicated soft tissue biopsies under local anesthesia in an out-patient setting.

In this workshop attendees work on typodont models which have
implants placed in them. An attachment abutment is placed on
the implant and torqued to the required torsion as directed by
the specific implant abutment requirements. The process of how
the male or female attachment is picked up in cold cure acrylic is
demonstrated for each of the attachment abutment systems. The
corresponding male or female retentive element located in the
denture is checked for retention on the model. This element is
then changed and a new one is replaced, simulating what is done
chair-side by the dentist.
