IS TMD A MULTISYSTEM DISORDER?
TMJ disorders have long been considered to be most closely associated with occlusal disturbances as the root cause. More commonly,
however, the NIH has established that TMD is frequently linked to
overlapping syndromes and symptoms. This lecture addresses the
need for a more global outlook and comprehensive approach in
establishing investigatory protocols, causal relationships and connectivity to other system disorders. TMD is presented as a complex
medical condition with emphasis on identifying diagnostic axis indicators, imaging studies and blood tests to help reach diagnostic conclusions, therapeutic targets and generate referrals.
