L O N G T I M E D O S P U E B L O S High school teacher
John Dent will be the first to admit he walks away from
each campus video news show and annual yearbook production with much of the kudos, although it's his students who
put in the time.
"I get a lot of the glory, but they do all the work," he said.
Dent teaches video/TV production, digital imaging and
pre-calculus at the Goleta high school. He also heads the
school's yearbook program, something that has grown to
become nationally recognized under his guidance.
Jostens has recognized Dos Pueblos' yearbook, Image,
among the Top 25 in the nation and listed the chronicle
of high school life in its Top 10 eight times during the past

10-plus years. Columbia University also has named the
yearbook among the Top 25 nationally.
"That is pretty awesome to be celebrated at that level," Dent
said. "We create a journal ... that covers the year for the
students and the community. When you look at it, you don't
know that a yearbook could be like this."
Dent is proud of the Career Technical Education program
he has helped shaped over the years at DP, where he began
teaching math 16 years ago. There are now six pathways
students can choose to follow when enrolling for the high
school's CET program, he said.
When the Canadian born and raised Dent, 46, began teaching at DP, the school didn't even have a video class. After six
