Southern California built environment. 
"We own archives of numerous architects who shaped a new
concept of life by adapting the principles of architectural
modernism to local climate and resources, a concept which
continues to inspire contemporary practices today," "said
Silvia Perea, curator of the ADC, which boasts over 1 million
items all told.
"There are numerous ways in which our audiences can participate in our programs and make the museum part of their
daily lives," Perea added. "That's what drives us!"
What drives the scholars and performers in theater and
dance? A passion for their craft and for sharing it with audiences both on campus and off. And from quarterly undergraduate dance concerts to full-scale productions by professional company-in-residence Santa Barbara Dance Theater,
LAUNCH PAD and the inventive Shakespeare-focused program Naked Shakes, the possibilities are seemingly endless.
"The UCSB Department of Theater and Dance aims to set
the highest professional standards in training, research and
performance," said Irwin Appel, department chair and professor of theater. "We feature some of the finest young talent
in California. Our BFA programs in acting and in dance are
unique to the UC system, and many of our graduates have
gone on to successful careers. We produce exciting new work
and reimagined classics, and we believe we make some of
the highest quality theater and dance on the Central Coast."
