given the severity and widespread impact of COVID-19.

The proximity to the research being done at UC Santa Barbara has
fostered a community of start-ups and cutting edge technology. FLIR
SYSTEMS and SEEK THERMAL are both large employers. Because
of their pivot during COVID-19, more than 400 people remained
employed during the economic crisis. Many businesses in Goleta kept
employees working and made accommodations for safety protocols
around the virus.

" This might just become another part of the infrastructure
that we pay attention to, just like we do with metal detectors and security cameras, " Muench said.
" Since the impact of COVID is much larger, what we're seeing now is that these tools are becoming a more permanent
integrated feature. "
