No continent, or cruise line, was safe: China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa and many cruises to boot. Their suitcases, and their lives, were packed. You know what happens next: First, granddaughter Julia arrived, thanks to the couple’s younger daughter; and five years later, Summer stole the show, courtesy of their older. If the granddaughters didn’t replace the Stones’ passion for travel, they certainly kicked it down the totem pole. “Grandkids change so quickly in the years between 1 and 3. We didn’t want to miss anything,” says Ken. “One time, I snuck in a cruise and lied to Donie and said that it was just one week long— otherwise she wouldn’t go. The cruise was a week longer than I had said.” Mid-trip Donie caught on to Ken’s fudge and phoned Julia.
