Al Martinez (“GrandZ in the ’Hood,” page 23), a longtime columnist for the Los Angeles Times, screenwriter, essayist, writing instructor and Pulitzer Prize winner, lives in Topanga Canyon, California, with his wife, Cinelli. Stephen Foster (“Mouse Brown Hair,” page 46) has written more than 200 poems. “I love the challenge of rhyme: Most of my work is in couplets or quatrain.” Born and raised in dallas County, Texas, he is the father of six children and the grandfather of 11—with a set of twins on the way. He lives with his wife of 40 years, della, in Mesquite, Texas. Suzanne Finley (“We’re Taking In the G’kids…,” page 30) is detroit Metro regional editor for Grand. She’s a fan of Tigers baseball and a full-time grandmother who blogs about it at Liam’s Grandma . Ruth Nathan, Ph.D, (“a numbers Game,” page 26) is an active board member for the Foundation for Early Literacy Learning. ruth’s doctoral work centered on early literacy, and she currently works with dr. anne Cunningham and graduate students at UC Berkeley developing major studies in the field of early childhood. ruth is a contributing editor of Grand, and she and her husband, Larry, have two grandchildren, Saul and Theodore. Norene Kelly (“Face-to-Facebook,” page 34) has been published in various magazines and newspapers, and she currently reports from “the edge of spirituality” at her Web site, Stories about Why We are Here . She lives in Iowa, where she enjoys eating corn with her husband and daughters. Chris King (“Beyond Video Games,” page 16) is nana to two lovable grand-girls, Samantha and Sylvia. She and her husband, Jim, live in the town of Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, on the north shore of Lake Erie. after 26 years of teaching, she is now retired and enjoys writing, volunteering at a local school, flower arranging, water gardening, caregiving of the young and very old, walking and enjoying nature, finding art in the everyday world, attending theater events and finding creative solutions to life’s challenges. Sandra Scott (“Family Crews,” page 38) is a retired social studies teacher who travels compulsively. She and her husband, grandparents of eight, find traveling with the children a wonderful way to share family folklore and instill a love for the world. The Scotts live in Mexico, new York. Sally Wendkos Olds (“SHMILY,” page 36) has been writing books for more than 30 years and is the author of the best-selling Complete Book of Breastfeeding, now in revision for its 4th edition. a former president of the american Society of Journalists and authors, she lives in new York, where she is “super-granny” to five grandchildren. Margery Atkinson (“On a Mission,” page 13) is a reading specialist with an M.a. in secondary education who once taught English as a second language in China. She is also a former writing mentor and consultant, a literacy resource teacher, and a faculty advisor for interns at San Jose State University in California, where she lives. She has two grandchildren.
