on a recent nature walk. Brought
'em home. Painted 'em. After dark,
we strolled the neighborhood, flashlights and "ladybugs" in tow, conducting a "ladybug launch." The
best fun was returning the next night
to see which pets remained in the
flower beds we gifted with our curious crafty critters.
Before long, the grandkids
take over
We've collected lovely leaves and
rolled them over air-dried clay to
fashion fetching plates to give away
as gifts. We build our own games
from boxes to roll potatoes or toss
rings at for points and prizes. I often
start with a stodgy suggestion; the
kids advance and expand it into
a multi-level experience that elicits jaw-dropping awe. Yep. They've
become that good! They've built
well upon the basic skills and critical-thinking approach that are natural companions to early age crafting.
I am proud to have traveled that creative journey with them. Our memories are bountiful and indelible.

Today, we sit together in the sun, sifting and sorting and selecting. "What are we going to make, grandma?" they ask eagerly
query. But that choice won't necessarily fall to me. I've nurtured

It satisfies my soul to watch a grandchild
carefully paint a hand-sculpted creation.
a crafty little crowd here and they're brimming with ideas of their
own. I observe as their anxious little fingers twitch in anticipation,
confident they're about to unleash their own delightful brand of
originality. From now on, this grandma may opt for a place in the
satisfying capacity of admiring spectator.
