Itty, bitty, and witty

W
e all know our grandkids
are adorable and engaging but sometimes they
say things that are just so cute we
have to tell someone. To kick off
our newest feature, here is a story
about bits of wisdom spoken
by my grandson and two other
GRANDkids that readers have
shared.
We were hanging out for a
few days with my three-year-old
grandson, Avery. From time to
time when one of his parents (aka
my daughter and son-in-law),
corrected Avery on his behavior,
my husband would gently point
out to them that Avery is three
and probably didn't even understand what he was doing or
why. (He hates to see his grand
boy corrected for what he considers not to be infractions!) At
one point, my daughter asked
Avery why he was doing a
particularly silly thing. Avery
explained politely, "I don't
know what I'm doing, I'm
three years old."

One day 6-year-old Soleil and her mother were
getting dressed. Mom put on a dress that was pastel-colored and not particularly bright. Soleil loves
bright colors and told her Mom she didn't like that
dress; it wasn't pretty. Mom replied, "Well, Soleil, you
know you don't always have to look pretty," thinking
she was teaching her daughter a lesson about what's
important in life. Obviously Soleil didn't agree as her
reply was, "Well, you could at least try."

Four-year-old Mila was hungry. Mom Mom asked
her what she wanted for breakfast. Mila said she
wanted a sandwich. Mom Mom explained that breakfast foods included eggs, pancakes, cereal, yogurt,
and the like, but sandwiches were really more of a
lunch food. "So, what would you like for breakfast,
Honey?" Mom Mom asked sweetly.
"Lunch," replied Mila, because she still wanted a
sandwich.
