A post-war Baby Boomer born in London in 1948-his birth name was Steven Demetre Georgiou-he was a Beatles fan who believed that " all you need is love. " Stevens, an impassioned performer, achieved superstar status in the 1970s as a singer-songwriter, writing hits such as " Wild World, " " Moon Shadow, " " Father and Son, " and " The First Cut Is the Deepest. " In 1971 his song " Peace Train " became an anthem for a vision of a better world. Like many in our generation, Stevens was on a spiritual search for meaning. Two nearly fatal events experiences changed the course of his life - a serious bout with tuberculosis and a near-drowning in Malibu.
