The South Korean government has also announced more

Donghae 1 floating wind farm; Hyundai Heavy Industries and
Doosan's 100-MW H2

green H2 production plant, among other infrastructure.
The government also plans to place more than 6 MM
H2-fueled vehicles on the road by 2040. According to analysts,
this will require H2 production of more than 5.2 MMtpy.
To provide H2 fuel, the HyStation consortium-Woodside,
Kogas, Hydrogenic Energy Fund, Samsung C&T, the Industrial
Bank of Korea and Hyundai Rotem-are building new H2
refueling stations throughout the country. The stations will
primarily target public bus fleets.
Meanwhile, Korea Gas Corp. plans to boost H2
by building 25 production bases nationwide, along
with constructing new supply chains and distribution channels.
It also plans to invest in liquefied H2
A consortium consisting of Air Liquide, Airbus, Incheon
International Airport Corp. and Korean Air are conducting a
feasibility study to decarbonize South Korea's aviation sector.
The study includes incorporating new H2
at the Incheon airport, as well as using H2 to fuel aircraft.
Hyundai Oilbank plans to build a blue H2
ecosystem in
South Korea with a total capacity of 100,000 tpy by 2025.
The company plans to use the produced H2
for products
production and as a fuel for power generation. In Boryeong,
Korea Midland Power and SK E&S are developing blue H2
production capacity. The project will be within Korea Midland
Power's Boryeong Power Plant and produce 25 tpy of
once completed.
Energy Global, GS E&C and KOSPO/Southern
Power have signed an MoU to design, build and operate
the world's first fuel cell power plant. The $140-MM plant,
located in Ulsan, would use H2
for power. Once operational in 2025, the plant will produce
3,850 tpy of clean H2
waste, which is expected to generate 60 GWh/yr.
SK Group plans to start operations on a new H2
in late 2023/early 2024. The plant will produce blue H2
from 40,000 tpy of mixed plastics
imported natural gas and supply it to the southern ports
of Yeosu and Gwangyang. In turn, the H2
will help provide
power, fuel ships and vehicles, etc. The project is part of
SK Group's initiative to invest $16 B in South Korea's H2
industry. In Daesan, LG Chem is building a 56,000-Nm3
plant that will convert methane-rich offgas from the naphtha
cracking process into H2

Malaysia. In February 2021, national energy giant Petronas
announced a partnership with Japanese LNG importer
JERA to collaborate on a wide range of low-carbon energy
initiatives covering H2

the marine industry as a bunker fuel, enabling marine vessels
to adhere to the International Maritime Organization's
2030/2050 fuel regulations.
