As the demand for trenchless rehabilitation of pressure
pipe grows, so does the need to standardize the design and installation methods and specifications. This
presentation will provide owners with the knowledge
to properly specify these technologies, including
structural design, host pipe preparation, installation,
and post installation testing and inspections.
10:45 - 11:25 a.m.

New Inspection Technologies & How To Utilize
The Information In MACP
Speaker: TBD
This presentation will provide an overview of some
of the new manhole-specific inspection equipment,
and how the data collected can be incorporated into
MACP inspection software and forms.
9:30 - 9 55 a.m.
When, Why And How Of Manhole I&I Elimination
Speaker: Don Rigby, Vice President,
Marketing/Education, Avanti
This session will address all aspects of eliminating I&I
as a first function in a successful manhole rehabilitation program.
10 - 10:25 a.m.
Cementitious Liners
Speaker: William Shook, President, AP/M Permaform
With all the different cementitious materials available
in the market, this session will describe the material
properties and specific manhole conditions that determine which cementitious material should be used,
and remove the mystery from cementitious lingo.
10:30 - 10:55 a.m.
Corrosion Protection With Polymer Liners
Speaker: John McGill, Technical Director,
Raven Lining Systems
Polymer liners have been used for over 30 years to
protect concrete manholes from corrosion. This
presentation will provide an overview of the different types of liners available, and when the use of a
polymer liner is appropriate.

The Importance Of Proper Inspection
Speaker: Rocky Capehart, President,
Rocky Capehart LLC
Inspection during and after rehabilitation insures
the owner of a long-lasting, high-quality manhole
rehabilitation. This presentation will discuss methods
of inspection and how NASSCO's Inspector Training
Certification Program for Manholes can prepare
owners, inspectors and engineers.
11:30 - 11:55 a.m.
Ask The Experts
In this interactive question-and-answer session, all
panelists will be prepared to discuss at length any
issues or questions that the audience may have.

Track VI-C
HDD OPERATIONS & PRODUCTIVITY
8:30 - 9:55 a.m.
HDD Contractors Round Table
Moderators: Ron Halderman, P.E., Director Of Special
Projects, Mears Group;
Robert Carpenter, Editor-In-Chief,
Underground Construction
HDD contractors of varying sizes will convene in a
round table format to candidly discuss issues of concern, growth potential, relationships with owners,
equipment and services, and the overall state of the
HDD industry. Time will also be allotted for questions
and input from the audience. It is a tremendous
opportunity to gain valuable insight into the HDD
market place.
10 - 10:25 a.m.
Strategies For Combating Rock
Speakers: Tod Michael, Product Manager of
Trenchless Products, Vermeer Corporation;
Curt Dubbins, Product Support Specialist,
Mincon Inc.
This presentation will supply guidelines for selecting
the best-available technology and tools for the rock
conditions a utility installation contractor, project
planner or civil engineer may face. Discussion will
include various rock conditions and a range of HDD
solutions, based on rock cutting science, company
testing and customer testimonials. Different levels
of rock are soft, defined as 8,000 psi compressive strength (CPS) and below; mid harness, 8,000
-18,000 psi CPS; and hard, at 18,000 psi CPS and
up. Reasons to select drag cutting, roller cone, PDC
bits or air hammers for each condition, and the accompanying drill, will also be covered.
10:30 - 10:55 a.m.
Innovative HDD Training Prepares Next-Generation Drill Operators
Speaker: Seth Matthesen, Senior Product Manager,
HDDs, Ditch Witch
Contractors have to shape a new pool of skilled
operators who currently lack industry expertise.
Although popular for decades, training schools
cannot serve every new operator, and are expensive
and time consuming. On-the-job training impacts

productivity and other potential hazards. Today's
HDD training technology must be quick, cost-effective and suitable to engage a tech-savvy generation.
The solution is the virtual reality (VR) simulator. This
presentation provides an overview of this new training technology, which provides accelerated training
in a safe, risk-free environment, enabling operators
to confidently use a drill before ever stepping foot
on the job site.
11 -11:25 a.m.
Strategies For Effective Fluid Waste Management
Speaker: Adam Bates, Product Manager,
Vermeer Corporation
Water used for drilling fluids and hydro excavation
is key for effective utility installation, but proper
disposal can add significant operational costs and
logistical challenges for contractors. The right equipment and a good plan are key. This presentation will
discuss things to consider when planning the next
job's disposal. It will highlight one industry solution
that helps contractors control the cost, time and
complexity of drilling fluid and hydro-excavation
waste management, and why it can be a good option
for a variety of utility installation situations.
11:30 - 11:55 a.m.
Why Should Owners Or Engineering Firms Care?
Speaker: Danny Crumpton, P.E., New Business
Development/Technical Sales, Inrock
Construction projects are inherently risky. Managing
them is all about identifying, mitigating, pricing and
transferring risk. University of Alberta research on risk
analysis for HDD projects revealed that regardless
of the source or responsibility, the ultimate cost of
delays ends up residing with project owners:
* Failure to meet in-service dates for shippers,
perhaps incurring liquidated damages.
