Awards Banquet on Tuesday, Jan. 30, during
the Underground Construction Technology
International Conference & Exhibition (UCT).
Victor (Vic) Weston, renowned and revered as
a long-term role model for collaboration and
support between the construction industry and higher education, will be the 2018
honoree.
Weston is president and owner of Baton
Rouge, LA, Tri-State Road Boring Inc., a
general contracting firm founded in 1975 that
specializes in highway drainage and casings,
the heavy industrial sector for petrochemical
companies, micro-tunneling and directional
drilling throughout the Gulf South states.
A 30-year history of advocating for strong
industry-university relations began with
Weston's membership in the Louisiana State
Licensing Board for Contractors. He organized
regular meetings with Louisiana Tech University
leaders to help them align student/workforce
development activities with the needs of the
construction industry.
"Vic was always at the center of these discussions and was always both encouraging and
challenging us to achieve higher levels," said
Leslie Guice, president of Louisiana Tech, and
former professor and head of the school's civil
engineering department.

Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament Scheduled
The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Underground Construction Technology Association (UCTA)
will host the annual golf tournament on Monday, January 29, 2018, the day before UCT.
Proceeds benefit the Gulf Coast UCTA's college scholarship program.
MONDAY
The tournament will be held at the elite South Course at City Park in New Orleans. A
shotgun start is scheduled for noon.

students learned from national experts.
He had a major role in generating millions
of dollars of industry support for construction
education programs around the state. This
included working with the Licensing Board to
influence the state legislature to direct surplus
board funds to create $1 million Chairs at various universities.
Also working with the Louisiana legislature,
Weston and his fellow board members had all
Licensing Board fines assigned to the Contractors Educational Trust Fund (CTEF), providing
further support of university engineering and
construction departments - totaling more than
$5 million over the years. CTEF, with Weston
serving as vice chairman, has been a member
of TTC's advisory board since its September
1989 inception.
Weston has been an active member of the
Louisiana Association of General Contractors
for almost 39 years. He has served in a variety of
leadership roles including president of the Louisiana AGC chapter and is currently its Treasurer.
Weston has also been involved in the AGC on
the national level, serving on the executive committee and executive board. He also serves on
the board of directions for the Common Ground
Alliance, representing the AGC.
For all his efforts in supporting the construction industry and education, Weston was
inducted into the Louisiana State University
Construction School Hall of Honor in 1993. He
is a veteran, serving in the United States Marine
Corp for 5½ years.

Workshop On
Municipal Grouting

WEDNESDAY

Presented by UCT exhibitor Avanti International and its partners, Aries Industries and
Logiball, This session will give you a fundamental knowledge of how and why injection
grouting stops groundwater infiltration into
sewer collections. The workshop will be at
the Morial Convention Center on Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 8:30-11:55 a.m. The
interactive course includes videos, demonstrations and expert tutorial on grouting as a
proactive maintenance tactic. PDH credit is
offered and course material is provided - all
as part of your UCT registration.
Learning Objectives:
How to cost-effectively control I&I-the
root cause of sanitary sewer overflow (SSOs)
and excessive flow to wastewater treatment
plant (WWTP), according to the EPA.
* Contractors interested in diversifying
their scope of services will gain insight on
the role and responsibilities of grouting.
* Engineers with limited exposure to grouting techniques learn they are complementary to all trenchless technologies.
* Public Works personnel will add injection
grouting to their rehab and maintenance
toolbox.
