Ditch Witch Hosts High School Students For National Manufacturing Day
In recognition of National Manufacturing Day, Ditch Witch, a Charles Machine Works company,
hosted 220 high school freshmen on Thursday, Oct. 26, to help inspire the next generation of
manufacturers and celebrate modern manufacturing. Participating high schools included Perry,
Covington-Douglas, Morrison, Mulhall-Orlando and Guthrie.
During a tour of the Ditch Witch and Subsite Electronics facilities, students heard from factory
employees and had the opportunity to ask questions. In addition to the tour, students received
lunch and experienced the thrill of the famous Ditch Witch Super Witch tractor in action.
Throughout the day, students also participated in classroom-setting engineering projects. To
promote team-building and provide hands-on learning, teams of students competed to build
the tallest tower using spaghetti, one yard of tape and a marshmallow.
"Manufacturing Day provides an opportunity for our organization to engage with the local
community, showcase the value of modern manufacturing in today's society and create a
better understanding of manufacturing careers," said Dennis Wierzbicki, Ditch Witch president.
"Through education and sharing our enthusiasm with students, we hope to play our part in
encouraging the next generation of the manufacturing industry."

TWDB Approves $47 Million For Houston
Stormwater Project
The Texas Water Development Board
(TWDB) approved $47.195 million in financial assistance from the Clean Water State
Revolving Fund to the city of Houston for
design and construction costs associated
with a stormwater management project.
The project will address flooding in
the Brays Bayou watershed, increasing
the bayou's capacity to move stormwater
through it. It's part of a larger project that
involves channel widening and detention
basin construction to reduce the flooding
impacts across the entire watershed.

Houston could save approximately $25
million over the life of the loan by using the
Clean Water State Revolving Fund.
TWDB is the state agency charged with
collecting and disseminating water-related
data, assisting with regional planning, and
preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources.
