Track III
LATERALS REHABILITATION
Presented by the Laterals Committee of NASSCO

10-10:25 a.m.
New Orleans Water Main Replacement With
Compression-Fit HDPE Lining, Bursting
Speakers: Mark Bear Child, Project Manager, SWBNO;
Todd Grafenauer, Education Director,
Murphy Pipelines;
Bart Peak, Vice President of Operations,
Wallace C. Drennan
Using an innovative approach geared towards reducing
customer impact, minimizing capital spending and
reducing operational costs, New Orleans Sewerage &
Water Board selected pre-chlorinated pipe bursting and
compression-fit HDPE pipe lining to install new HDPE
pipe. This included replacing 12", 16" and 30" water
mains in sensitive urban areas with busy intersections
and along Tulane University, requiring fast construction
completion. Wallace C. Drennan, a third-generation Louisiana construction company, and Murphy
Pipelines, a specialist in trenchless technologies, were
awarded the projects.

Moderators: Jason Walborn, Business Development,
Hoffman Southwest Corporation;
Brendan Doyle, Project Manager,
BLD Services LLC

10:30-10:55 a.m.
Regional Approach to Expand North Dakota
Water System
Speaker: Bo Botteicher, P.E., Vice President &
General Manager, Underground Solutions Inc.
North Dakota is building infrastructure in the northwest
to meet growth trends. The Western Area Water Supply
Association (WAWSA) was enacted by the state legislature to ensure a cohesive approach to this expansion,
with the goal of providing water to five counties: Burke,
Divide, McKenzie, Mountrail and Williams. Construction
is funded in large part by selling excess water to the
energy industry, which prompted the area's development. This presentation will discuss the multitude of
installation methods, both open trench and trenchless,
as well as pipe materials used to expand the water
infrastructure for the growing population.

10-10:25 a.m.
CIPP Lateral Lining
Speaker: Brendan Doyle, Project Manager,
BLD Services LLC
Review of the cured-in-place pipe lateral lining
processes and systems, along with the effectiveness of
each.

11-11:25 a.m.
Protocol for Structural Classifications Aligns Rehab
Problems With Lining Products
Speakers: David Kozman, P.E., Product Manager,
HammerHead Trenchless;
Chris Macey, P.E., Americas Technical
Practice Leader, AECOM
The AWWA M28 sub-committee on Structural
Classifications has developed a suggested protocol to
align structural lining with rehabilitation systems. The
approach associates the various types of deterioration
problems to specific rehabilitation products, and
outlines testing regimens that quantitatively define
each unique classification. Also, industry consensus
on the design of structural lining systems is based on
the concept of rationally matching the approach to the
product, its limit states, interaction with the host pipe,
and the overall rehabilitation objective. This session
provides an overview of the Structural Classifications
white paper and its roadmap for further Standards and
Manual of Practice development.

Track IV
PIPE BURSTING
Presented by the
International Pipe Bursting Association
Moderator: Matt Werth, Vice PresidentProduct Development, Vortex Companies
8:30-8:55 a.m.
Design Considerations, Benefits of Pipe Bursting
Speaker: George Mallakis, Regional Manager,
TT Technologies Inc.
This session will review the basics of pipe bursting,
types, product classifications, terms, etc. Also, the
ever-growing scope of pipe bursting and splitting
technologies will be highlighted.

9-9:25 a.m.
Managing Expectations for Trenchless
Rehabilitation, Renewal
Speaker: Matt Timberlake, President,
Ted Berry Company Inc.
The presentation will discuss the challenges and
importance of properly managing expectations of the
owner, engineer and contractor, when considering the
pipe bursting process in complex situations.
9:30-9:55 a.m.
Financial Intelligence of Pipe Bursting
Speaker: Troy Freed, Business Development Manager,
Corby Energy Services Inc.
This presentation will discuss the construction costs of
pipe bursting and other pipe rehabilitation techniques,
and highlight the decision points that make pipe
bursting the most economical option. Issues discussed
will be the impact of point repairs, asphalt and other
surface improvements, easement acquisition costs, and
other areas where pipe bursting will be beneficial. Also
included will be the situations where pipe bursting may
not be a benefit.
10-10: 25 a.m.
Case Studies: Asbestos Cement Pipe Bursting;
EncapsulAC
Speaker: Alan Ambler, P.E., LEED AP, President,
AM Trenchless
Pipe bursting asbestos cement pipe is complicated in
many ways. Both the EPA and OSHA have authority
on the issue. This presentation will discuss the current
regulatory position on the technology when it comes
to AC pipe, and how to comply. A case study will be
presented to demonstrate the techniques required to
construct the project, along with a unique product
called EncapsulAC that could potentially ease regulatory concerns.
10:30-10:55 a.m.
Mitigating Risk in Class C Pipe Bursting Projects
Speaker: Alan Goodman, Strategic Accounts Sales
Manager, HammerHead Trenchless
This presentation will demonstrate the economy,
versatility and efficacy of the pipe bursting method,
especially when facing multiple job-site complications.
The highlighted case study involved upsizing 900 LF
of 4" cast iron pipe with 6" HDPE pipe. Complications
included a tightly confined workspace on the surface
with little room to fuse up lengths of pipe, as well as
saturated clay ground conditions that made it difficult
to place and secure the 125-ton hydraulic pulling
machine. Also, multiple utilities crowded the easement
underground, not only in close proximity to the pipe,
but frequently crossing over it in the middle of the run.
11-11:25 a.m.
Case Study: Multiple Challenges of Shreveport
Bursting Program
Speaker: Mike Woodcock, Vice President,
Portland Utilities Construction Company LLC
This presentation will be a case study of pipe bursting
multiple projects in Shreveport, LA. Challenges and
