Komatsu America Corp. introduced the new PC390LCi-11 hydraulic
excavator, the first 3D semi-automatic excavator with the nimbleness
and speed of the popular 36-ton weight class machines, and stability of
much larger machines.
It's powered by an 8.8-liter, 257-horsepower, EPA Tier 4 Final,
SAA6D114E-6 engine.
KOMTRAX level 5 technology also enhances performance by feeding
the operator machine data, such as fuel and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF)
levels, Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), regeneration status,
location, cautions and maintenance alert information.
"Whether it's production excavating, utility trenching, site prep or any
application where greater over-the-side lift capacity is required, this
could be the machine operators fight over on the job site," said Renee
Kafka, product specialist, Komatsu America.
In addition, PC390LCi-11 comes standard with Intelligent Machine
Control, a unique sensor package, including stroke sensing hydraulic
cylinders, an IMU sensor and GNSS antennas. Using 3D design data
loaded into the monitor, machine position relative to target grade
is accurately displayed. When the bucket reaches the target surface,
automation kicks in to limit over-excavation.
Other features make the PC390LCi-11 a unique hydraulic excavator.
* Intelligent Machine Control Joysticks: semi-auto/manual
mode-switching and design surface offset function can be operated
with switches on the control levers.
* Auto Grade Assist: as the operator moves the arm, the boom adjusts
the bucket height automatically, tracing the target surface and minimizing digging too deep.
* Auto Stop Control: during boom and bucket operation, the work
equipment automatically stops when the bucket edge reaches the
design surface, thus minimizing design surface damage.
* Minimum Distance Control: the machine controls the bucket by
automatically selecting the point on the bucket closest to the target
surface. If the machine is not facing a sloped surface at a right angle,
it will still follow the target surface and minimize digging below it.

* Facing Angle Compass: the orientation of the facing angle compass'
arrow shows the operator the facing angle, relative to target surface.
This allows the bucket edge to be accurately positioned square with
the target surface.
* Realistic 3D Display: the machine and design surfaces are shown
in realistic 3D. The angle and magnification of the views can be
changed, allowing the operator to select the optimum view, depending on work conditions.
* Intelligent Machine Control Box: the monitor uses a large 12.1-inch
screen for visibility and ease of use. The necessary information is
displayed in an easily understood fashion and a touch-screen icon
interface, instead of a multi-step menu, simplifies operation.
The PC390LCi-11 excavator, whether rented, leased or purchased, is
covered by the Komatsu CARE complimentary maintenance program
for the first three years or 2,000 hours, whichever comes first. This program includes scheduled factory maintenance, a 50-point inspection
at each service and up to two complimentary Komatsu DPF exchanges
and up to two DEF tank flushes in the first five years.
Komatsu America Corp., a leading global heavy equipment manufacturer, is a U.S. subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd., the world's second-largest
manufacturer and supplier of earth-moving equipment.

Epiroc
epiroc.com
Epiroc introduced another first in hydraulic breaker technology. Many of the company's heavy hydraulic breaker
attachments now feature the patented Intelligent Protection System (IPS). All other heavy hydraulic breakers in the
Epiroc range will incorporate it during 2018.
Seamlessly combining Epiroc's AutoControl and StartSelect functions, IPS provides simpler, more efficient, and
more economical breaker operation.
For example, IPS ensures that the hydraulic breaker always starts in the AutoStart mode. When the contact pressure between chisel and material increases and AutoControl switches from a short piston stroke to a long piston
stroke, IPS automatically switches to the AutoStop mode. When the chisel breaks through the material, the breaker
automatically shuts off and prevents blank firing.
IPS also automatically adapts the breaker's operating behavior to any working condition. This increases uptime
because the fully automated functionality requires no operator intervention or reaction - and no work interruption.
The system permits more accurate and significantly faster positioning of the breaker, thanks to the centering
effect, and avoids blank firing that often results in tool damage. It also eliminates mechanical strain on the carrier
and extends the life of all wear components. The physical load on the operator is minimized, as well.
