Volvo Introduces Prebooking of
Electric Machines, High-Speed
Option for Wheel Loaders

Continuing to expand its drive to electromobility,
Volvo Construction Equipment is offering North
American customers the opportunity to prebook
electric construction equipment.
Successfully launched earlier this year to key
European markets, the online prebooking tool - at
volvoce.com/electromobility/prebook - is available
for customers in the U.S. and Canada. By signing up,
they can reserve a place in the production queue
for the ECR25 electric excavator and L25 electric
wheel loader. Late 2020 or early 2021, they will
be alerted if they have been selected to place an
actual order. The first round of machine deliveries is
anticipated in June 2021.
The electric ECR25 excavator and L25 wheel
loader have significantly lower noise levels, reduced
energy costs, improved efficiency, and fewer
maintenance requirements, compared with their
conventional counterparts. Both models will get
tough work done, since performance levels are
similar to their diesel equivalents.
They will also meet increasing environmental
concerns and regulations.
"These machines are designed for any state or
local government fleet that has set or is anticipated
to set electric vehicle targets or clean air regulations," said Ray Gallant, vice president, sales support,
Volvo CE. "They are also ideal for companies with
aggressive sustainability targets and those that need
equipment to operate in low-noise or zero-emissions environments."
Customer pilot programs, like the grant
administered by the South Coast Air Quality Man-

agement District in California, will be underway
throughout the fourth quarter of 2020 and into
the 2021 first quarter.
ECR25 is fitted with lithium-ion batteries and
one electric motor, replacing the diesel engine,
to power the hydraulics that move the machine
and attachment. The batteries store enough
electric energy to power the mini excavator
for up to eight hours in its most common
applications, such as utility work.
The L25 compact wheel loader also uses
lithium-ion batteries, which allow up to eight hours
of operation in regular applications, including light
infrastructure work, gardening, landscaping and
agriculture. It incorporates two dedicated electric
motors, one for the drivetrain and one for the
hydraulics, which leads to higher efficiency in
both the systems and the entire machine.
Both ECR25 and L25 have onboard chargers
that enable overnight charging adaptable to
conventional household electrical systems. In
addition, an off-board, fast charger could be used
to charge both machines - ECR25 at 80-percent
power within one hour of charge time, and L25
within two hours of charge time - and would
require a three-phase outlet.
High-Speed Option on Compact
Wheel Loader Models
A high-speed driveline option is now available on
Volvo CE L45H and L50H compact wheel loaders.
More than doubling top speeds, from 12 miles per
hour to 31 miles per hour, this allows faster travel
time and can reduce cycle times.
"These loaders are often used in applications that
require travel between job sites, where the standard-speed transmission may be time-consuming
and the alternative of transporting them by truck can
be expensive," said John Comrie, product manager,
wheel loaders, Volvo CE. "The higher travel speed
is not only efficient; it also improves productivity in
applications like load and carry and clearing snow."
With three driveline speeds available on these
wheel loaders - 12, 19 or 31.2 miles per hour -
customers can choose a max speed that best suits
their needs and applications. To dial into the correct
transmission setting, there is a drive mode selector.
As with all Volvo wheel loaders, the L45H and
L50H come with a lifetime warranty on the frame,
articulation joint and loader arm.

CASE Releases Next-Gen
SiteWatch Telematics

CASE Construction Equipment has released the
next generation of its SiteWatch telematics platform,
which comes standard for three years on all CASE
heavy equipment with ProCare, standard on all
CASE backhoes, and is available as an option
throughout the entire CASE equipment line.
The all-new dashboard features an easy-to-read
horizontal menu at the top of the screen above five
widgets designating core operating information,
such as an equipment summary, equipment search,
fuel level reports and alarm status. An easy dropdown menu makes critical reports on equipment
utilization, fuel consumption, maintenance and
other factors just a click away.
"Telematics data from construction equipment
only helps if it's easy to engage with and easy to
understand when it's presented to you," said
