infrastructure installation and rehabilitation with
a history of successful tunneling projects in San
Antonio and Central Texas.
The project was awarded July 7, 2020 with
a notice to proceed given mid-July and is
scheduled for completion in July 2023, before
the consent decree deadline of 2025.
SAK will install 26,750 LF (lineal feet) of 104-inch
diameter Hobas pipe via deep tunneling to depths
of up to 140 feet, utilizing two full-faced tunnel
boring machines (TBMs). An additional 2,250 LF of
60-inch Hobas pipe will be installed via tunneling
along US Hwy 90. SAK will also construct a total of
nine shafts ranging from 33 to 143 feet in depth.
The ultimate wastewater conveyance required
has been projected to be 137.6 million gallons per
day (MGD) at Peak Wet Weather Flow (PWWF).

large-diameter - 18-inch to 126-inch - fiberglass
pipe in North America. Its Houston facility has
been manufacturing fiberglass pipe for over
30 years for municipal, industrial and energy
infrastructure. Currently it is expanding into noncircular profiles manufactured in Houston.

GF Piping Expands Footprint
in South America
Expanding its footprint in South America, Georg
Fischer Piping Systems acquired FGS Brasil Indústria
e Comércio Ltda., of Cajamar, Brazil. FGS is a leading manufacturer of polyethylene piping systems,
serving the local water and gas distribution market
and other industrial segments.
Founded in 1997 and privately owned by two
main shareholders, FGS became Brazil's leading
manufacturer of high-density polyethylene pipes
(HDPE), fittings, and additional equipment, within
a few years. After the inauguration of a new
production site in Cajamar, near São Paulo, in
2013, a second plant opened in the Greater Recife/
Pernambuco area, in 2019.
The acquisition is fully aligned with GF Piping
Systems' strategy to expand its global presence in
the fifth-most populated country in the world. Brazil
is undergoing a major governmental initiative that
includes development of the country's infrastructure, especially in the water and gas utility sectors.
In cooperation with a domestic water utility company, both FGS and GF were already part of a large
water loss improvement program to replace the São
Paulo region's piping network. As the leading supplier of HDPE systems, GF and FGS will be well-positioned to serve existing and new customers.
