Xylem Unveils Breakthrough
Dewatering Pump
Biboα
automatically adapts to the speed and
performance in a fi eld instead of a static curve. This
means that the compact 8kW pump can deliver
QH-performance that spans the range of a 2kW
standard pump, right up to a 10kW standard pump.
As one of the most robust and reliable
pumps on the market, Flygt Biboα
has a life-span
that is up to four times longer than traditional
dewatering pumps.
Currently available for purchase or rent in the
Global water technology company, Xylem, unveiled
Flygt Biboα
- a breakthrough dewatering pump.
Applying Decision Intelligence, Flygt Biboα
automatically adapts to its environment and only
operates when needed, delivering energy savings
of up to 60 percent, compared to traditional
dewatering pumps. Operational wear and tear
is reduced by up to 70 percent, as instances of
snoring and dry running are minimized, leading to
as much as a 50-percent reduction in repair and
maintenance costs.
Additionally, due to its unique, compact and
stable design, Biboα breaks the mold of traditional
dewatering pumps with 30 percent fewer components,
reducing the amount of inventory needed.
Flygt Biboα
has cutting-edge capabilities,
off ering two diff erent running modes that can be
easily interchanged depending on the application
and operating environment.
Adaptive mode is typically used when there is
a requirement to maintain a constant low water
level in the sump - the pump will never stop running,
though it will regulate its speed after infl ow.
If snoring is detected, the pump will slow down to
reduce wear, but when water re-enters the sump,
the pump will increase its speed until the water
level is low again.
By letting the pump run continuously, there is no
need for any additional sensor. The incoming water
triggers the pump to run, so it will always be ready
to respond to changeable conditions in the fi eld.
Level mode consists of two pre-set levels: start
level is controlled with a built-in-pressure sensor to
detect water levels; stop level is triggered when the
pump detects snoring. As the pump only operates
as needed, for example, when water is above the
set level, it optimizes effi ciency and reduces both
energy consumption and operational wear.
Built on the same integrated power electronics
and systems platform as Xylem's renowned
wastewater pump, Flygt Concertor, Flygt

Volvo Construction Equipment has entered the
50-ton class for excavators with two models -
EC530E and EC550E - that have digging and lifting
forces normally found in 60-ton machines. This
gives contractors the performance they need to
excel in heavy-duty digging, mass excavation and
large-scale site preparation.
Gardner Denver Launches New 1,000-GPM,
Lightweight Pump for HDD Market
Gardner Denver High Pressure Solutions (GD), the
global provider of high-pressure pumps, parts and
services, expanded its suite of pump off erings for the
horizontal directional drilling (HDD) market with its new
GD 800HDD pump.
The American-made pump, built with quality and
effi ciency in mind, features an extremely high fl ow rate
of more than 1,000-gallons per minute, making it suitable for the most demanding HDD projects.
Its light-weight eases transportation between work sites and an extremely high rod load rating of
53,000 pounds ensures the pump is tough and long lasting.
Also designed to operate at a slow run speed, the pump delivers the same output, fl ow, and
pressure as faster pumps, with less violent actions, wear and friction. By delivering fewer strokes,
consumable life is extended.
" As an extremely powerful but lightweight, 800-brake-horsepower (BHP) pump, the GD 800 is
an ideal fi t for the HDD market, which has traditionally been reliant on heavy, less mobile oil and
gas drilling pumps, " said Adam Avey, engineering supervisor at Gardner Denver.
" The quintuplex (5-cylinder) pump runs with great effi ciency and can make fast work of the largest
HDD projects. Additionally, there is no requirement to change pistons to meet any required pressures. "
This newest pump is the second GD option for the HDD market. GD pumps are both qualifi ed as
maxi rig pumps and provide a suite of options to the HDD industry when tunneling under rivers and
roads and laying sewerage systems, water pipes, fi ber optic lines and pipelines.
Brandon Janda, high pressure industrial product line director, GD, said, " Our pumps serve as an
American-made, rugged and reliable industrial pump option for the HDD market, " said Brandon Janda,
director of Gardner Denver's high-pressure industrial product line.
Based in Houston, Gardner Denver's High-Pressure Solutions division specializes in designing and
manufacturing high-pressure pumps, parts and services for industries around the world. With state-ofthe-art
repair shops and service facilities across North America, Gardner Denver serves as a partner to
customers for every aspect of aftermarket support - including high-performance consumables, fi eld service,
repair and exchange programs, training, technical support and partnership and supply agreements.
