Thank You Blood Donors

D

ue to all your efforts and support and the generous donations from
those at the American Library Association Conference, 155 lives will
be supported. For that we are truly grateful.
Thank you so very much for your support at this time of year. It really means
so much to me that you would host this drive. It was so very helpful in making
sure we have enough blood products for those in need in the Chicagoland area.
I look forward to working with you again the next time you are in Chicago. It
was a true pleasure working with you. The conference was great and our team
really enjoyed being a part of it.
Together we can all make a difference.
Sincerely,
Christine Simons

ALA Awards
Honor Many

T

he ALA Awards, whether awarded via
Divisions, Sections, or at the ALA
level, provide a venue to recognize
and thank individuals who have contributed
over and above the ordinary.  But in almost
every case the award isn't about one person
so much as one among many who have
worked to accomplish, start, or complete
great projects. From training to outreach,
from mentoring to liaison work, the work
of individuals working together makes the
organization great.
Receiving an award provides opportunity
for the recipient to meet other ALA members
who they might not otherwise meet. I certainly found this to be true as I met students
from my library school and from early career
librarians who congratulated me and then
through further conversation I found that I
could assist them in their own career goals.
Awards shine a light on the great organization that ALA is, where networking,
collaboration, and valuable outcomes for
libraries, librarians, and the public all speak
to the strength of the organization that
accomplishes so much. Thank you for providing me with a platform to recognize my
colleagues with whom I have worked these
past 40 years. Great projects like Preservation
Week, disaster recovery, and more recently
the Preservation in Action, reach out within
the community to assist small institutions
in their preservation needs.  My awesome
colleagues I salute YOU!

"It's about increasing equity and access,"
McChesney said during her June 25 presentation, describing the ability of this program to
bring the museum into all 80 of the libraries
across the city. The program aims to informalize and embed STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics) and STEAM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and
Mathematics) concepts into summer education without using cost-prohibitive materials.
