GraphiCon at ALA Annual

Looking for some geeky and comic sessions to attend? Fret no more – GraphiCon is back! GraphiCon is a roundup of all the geeky and comic programming happening at ALA Annual Conference. It is kicked off at the Graphic Novel Friday Forum and goes on until the end of conference. The Graphic Novel Friday Forum will focus on adult graphic novel collections that go beyond sex and violence. Other sessions throughout the conference will cover topics such as international comics, the power of personal identity in comic mediums and how comics are impacting and being impacted by the refugee crisis.

Aside from panels there is also an Artist Alley, Graphic Novel, and Gaming Stage on the exhibit floor, and Gaming Lounge. Make sure to participate in the ERT/Christopher J. Hoy Scholarship and Artist Alley Silent Auction. The auction features original work donated by Artist Alley participants as well as numerous quilts donated by the ALA BiblioQuilters and friends of ERT. Bidding ends Sunday at 4:45pm.

This event offers visitors the opportunity to drop-in to view and take sample promotional materials from libraries across North America, as well as to network with library marketing professionals. This event is sponsored by LLAMA’s Marketing and Communications Community of Practice.

PR Xchange Awards

Sunday, June 24, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

This is a national competition for the best library promotional materials in print and electronic formats from the past year. Solicitation of submissions and judging takes place throughout the year. Entries are appraised by a jury of marketing professionals on the quality of content, format, design, creativity, and originality. This year 14 judges evaluated 266 print and 145 electronic submissions. Winning projects are displayed at the PR Xchange Event, and certificates are distributed at the Awards Ceremony.

John Cotton Dana Awards and Presentation

Sunday, June 24, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Considered among the most prestigious awards by the American Library Association, the John Cotton Dana Award, provided in conjunction with the H.W. Wilson Foundation, the American Library Association and EBSCO, honors outstanding library public relations, whether a summer reading program, a year-long centennial celebration, fundraising for a new college library, an awareness campaign, or an innovative partnership in the community.

In recognition of their achievement, John Cotton Dana award winners receive a cash award from the H.W. Wilson Foundation.
