A casual restaurant revitalizes New York's South Street Seaport By MICHAEL ADAMS Photography by PAUL JOHNSON and OLEG MARCH Conjure a list of the least likely places to locate a restaurant and it may not be too long before you include under a major highway. Yet that's exactly where Merchants Hospitality has chosen to establish its most recent eatery and bar: a 3,200-square-foot space tucked beneath an overpass of the FDR Drive on Manhattan's East Side. The finished restaurant, Industry Kitchen, now seems perfectly positioned as it is-on the East River, cheek by jowl with the newly revived historic South Street Seaport district, and blessed by an expansive water view, proximity to a waterfront park, and the charming Brooklyn Heights skyline. 1+2. Located under an overpass, Industry Kitchen's galvanized steel structure features a cantilevering edge that extends over outdoor dining. 1 2 hospitalitydesign.com August 2015 143http://www.hospitalitydesign.com
