Yes, hospitality has been an influencer, especially for the likes of residential design (and vice versa), but now it is pervading a slew of other projects and industries-from a car dealership in China to campus living and a men's retail store. Some are surprising, while for some, it is an evolution. They may have incorporated hospitality elements before, but now creating a good-looking, inviting, socially intuitive space similar to a great restaurant or hotel lobby is top priority. There is a shifting thought process about not only how people use spaces, but also how they feel and thrive while in them. I never thought that taking a job or not would depend on the amenities and communal space a company's office offers (I kind of wish ours were as cool as the ones included in the issue), but it has become a major factor. Call it the Schrager effect, the Ace effect, the Generator effect, the Yotel effect, the list goes on. It is because of you, our readers, who have expanded your reach-pushed the envelope in terms of what is the norm. It's the evolution of our industry, and it's thrilling to see the effect of great hospitality design. Speaking of great work, it seemed like every single day we were getting an email about another New York hotel, so we decided to put them all together in a fairly extensive roundup. Obviously, we can't include everything that's going on in the city-it does have an impressive 30,000-plus hotel rooms in its construction pipeline, more than any other city-but hopefully it gives a sense of the amount of amazing design work that is penetrating HD magazine's hometown. If you happen to be in New York on November 10th, don't miss the opportunity to celebrate some of our industry greats-Gary Dollens of Hyatt, Kemper Hyers of Starwood Capital Group, and chef Nobu Matsuhisa, as well as HBA for 50 years of innovation-during our Platinum Circle Awards Gala. I can promise you it will be a night you won't want to miss, with special guests and great company. Tickets are on sale now at I hope to see you there.
