perspectives interview neil jacobs By Stacy Shoemaker Rauen Photography courtesy of Six Senses SIXTH SENSE A CEO proves wellness is good business For more than three decades as a GM, developer, and in operations, Neil Jacobs made his mark upping the luxury quotient for the likes of some leading companies, including Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Starwood Capital Group. Now as CEO of Bangkok-based Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas since 2012, he's hoping to "change people's lives" by taking the 5-Star brand's ethos of wellness and sustainability to the next level, and aggressively expanding the Six Senses' mostly Asia Pacific-based properties globally. Currently, there are 10 resorts, 18 spas, and two Evason-branded resorts under its umbrella, but in 2015 alone, properties opened near the Qing Cheng Mountains in panda country, the company's first in China; in the Douro Valley in Portugal's wine country, the first in Europe; and spas in various hotels in Mykonos, Greece; Marbella, Spain; and Muscat, Oman. Next up: Seychelles, on its own private island only accessible by helicopter, Nicaragua, and more in China, Bali, and Tuscany. The British expat, who is fluent in five languages, sat down at Soho House New York to discuss mastering the art of sleep, sustainable design as community building, and how luxury has become homogenous. 180 May 2016 1 2
