year. Welcome to our second annual buyer's guide. It's a comprehensive resource of
manufacturing companies by name and category. We hope you find it useful.
Also in this issue are a few ideas taken from the advice of our amazing editorial
board (listed below) during our yearly meeting. First, a global hotel development update
from Lodging Econometrics. The good news is that our industry is still strong-not
2008 numbers, but positive year over year. The second is a look at three talented makers
who are doing dramatic and awe-inspiring work with lighting, glassblowing, and
ceramics. These are true artists who are helping
to make environments even more special. Plus,
we catch up with former Platinum Circle honoree
Lauren Rottet for our Back Space profile.
We have a lot to look forward to this year, as
well. If you read the note on page 22 from HD Expo's
group show director Liz Sommerville, you will see
registration is now open for our 2018 tradeshow and
conference taking place May 2nd-4th in Las Vegas.
I'm deeply involved in the conference content-
bringing the pages of the magazine to life-and I
couldn't be more excited about our speakers this
year. Check out hdexpo.com to see for yourself, and
check back for updates in the coming weeks.
It's also that time of year already: We are now
taking submissions for our 14th annual HD Awards, which celebrates the best projects
and products from the last 15 months. Along with expanded project categories, this
year we're introducing a separate Nightlife Awards to better represent that facet
of our industry. Deadlines are March 6th and February 1st, respectively, so head to
hospitalitydesign.com to enter. Finalists will be announced in the coming months,
and winners will be revealed at two ceremonies: Nightlife will be honored in Vegas on
March 26th during the Nightclub & Bar Show at an event sponsored by Marquee, and
the product and project categories will be fêted during our HD Awards celebration on
June 6th in New York at Cipriani 25 Broadway (Nightlife winners will be recognized
then as well). All will be featured in the June issue of HD.
I hope to announce more exciting news soon (including our incomparable juries
for the awards), as we are always trying to find different ways to better connect our
wonderful industry, including information about our newest event, Elevate, taking place
October 11th in New York. Stay tuned for more details next month.
