hospitality design portfolio Balongue Design Moshulu | Philadelphia Sea-inspired bar The renovation of the legendary Moshulu, the world's oldest and largest fourmast sailing vessel, is steeped in historical integrity. It exudes a luxurious seafaring style laced with maritime surprises. The design is well-appointed, yet not opulent. Balongue Design worked to save and celebrate its history and charm. The yacht's architectural details were salvaged and refreshed. Stunning wooden wainscoting and supple fabrics anchor new wood deck floors and the richly hued carpet. A new banquette wraps the main mast and fanciful wallcoverings adorn walls above mahogany paneling and ceilings in between mahogany rib beams. Intimate interior spaces and clever yacht-scaled furnishings give an authentic sense of anOld World sailing adventure. With a rich and alluring palette, the breathtaking aesthetic proves both glamorous and unpredictable, featuring art installations with marine details throughout. Guests are captivated by a giant natural beech wood fish light sculpture that hangs above the marble captain's dining table. Deep hued wallcoverings and whimsical chairs upholstered with Fornasetti faces grace the private dining area. The new bar is sophisticated, fronted with glittering gold oval-shaped tiles resembling the brand's mermaid's tail.
