Bayshore Residence and Rehabilitation
Center: This senior living facility in Duluth, Minn.,
is getting an updated look thanks to its new owner,
Paragon Healthcare Group. The remodel project
will include adding a new therapy room, more
options in dining areas, private room upgrades, as
well as a separate VA unit within the facility.
Carolinas Specialty Hospital: The Charlotte,
N.C.-based long-term acute care hospital
recently moved nine miles to a new $40 million,
86,500-square-foot facility. With triple the space,
it houses 40 beds, a nurses' station for every two
rooms, 12-foot picture windows in each patient
room, and a rooftop garden with a putting green
for patient rehabilitation.
Rennes Health and Rehab Center: The
Rennes Group's new 72-bed facility provides
a range of rehabilitative therapies and 24-hour
nursing care. On-site amenities include flatscreen TVs, wireless Internet, fireplace lounges,
and beautician/barber services. All aspects of
the project, including private rooms and

spacious suites, have been designed to reflect a
homelike environment.
Ebenezer Ridges: Ebenezer Society opened
a new memory care center in Burnsville, Minn.
The new three-story, $12 million addition features
individual suites surrounding common areas
designed to provide comfort and a sense of
familiarity. The campus also includes a physical
therapy area, movie theater, beauty and barber
shop, library, club room, dining rooms, chapel,
coffee shop, gift shop, and lounges.

CORRECTION
The article "Redefining the OR" in the August 2013 issue stated that the Facility
Guidelines Institute's (FGI) 2014 Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care
Facilities will require hybrid ORs to include "recessed built-in stainless storage cabinets instead of the rolling catheter storage racks typical of traditional ORs." According
to FGI, there is no mention of stainless storage cabinets in the new document. In
addition, the proposed and approved language regarding hybrid ORs actually states: "If
mobile storage units are used in lieu of fixed cabinets, the minimum clear dimension
shall be available between such units when they are parked against a permanent partition." Healthcare Design regrets the error.
