MemorialCare wanted a fresh
new look for its medical centers and
began thinking outside the box for its
location. An old Borders bookstore
in the middle of a retail shopping
center was selected as the place for
MemorialCare to make their mark.
The retail front is a good place for an
outpatient facility because it's less intimidating and more convenient than

the conventional model for doctor's
offices and hospitals. A medical
center in a retail setting not only encourages the community to go to the
doctor but makes focusing on your
health as simple as running errands.
Similar to how retail fronts maximize advertisements to shoppers;
the clinic's inviting interiors seen
through large windows increases the

clinic's visibility and becomes more
interesting and less intimidating.
The interiors of this new space are
unique and unexpected. The design
concept for the space not only makes
visitors feel welcomed and comfortable, but we've completely removed
the clinical feel when they walk
through the front door. The bold
colors are inviting, energizing, and

uplifting; which in turn, attribute to
health, vibrancy, and well-being. The
color story starts with the bold colors and higher contrast of materials
in the public space when the patient
is in their least vulnerable state. As
they progress through the clinical
areas and ultimately reach the exam
room, the color tones have calmed
down a bit and more natural tones
create a very simple yet comforting environment. The patient feels
secure and safe.
