Kuwait Children's
Hospital is
positioned to be the
largest children's
hospital in the world
and positioned
to be the largest
consolidated
pediatric care model
in the Middle East,
combining inpatient
and outpatient
facilities. Eighthundred and fiftyone beds, 20 clinics,
and 30 ORs fit under
3.5 million square
feet of new build
construction. Public
areas are designed

using strategies
more typical of
hospitality, theatre
and entertainment,
and civic works given
the iconic nature of
the project.

Earl Architects is a healthcare
planning and design firm
nationally recognized for
designing innovative healing
environments that reflect
the personality of each
community, while providing
significant operational
efficiencies to every project.
What is technology's
role in the design of
healthcare spaces?
Technology is much like
the healthcare industry, in
that both are constantly
changing to improve the
overall human experience.
For example: Designing in
real-time using 3-D BIM

modeling has expanded our
capabilities toward solving
the most complex issues like
never before; providing more
precise budgeting that yields
overall savings; schedules are
met ahead of time; product
lifecycle costs and operational
forecasting are more accurate;
and overall communication
between the entire project
team and owner are becoming
more efficient for improved
decision making.
What role does
collaboration play in
your process? How do
you ensure the right
people have a voice
at the design table?
At the beginning of every

impact reimbursement rates
as the demand grows for
more efficient healthcare
facilities. Architects,
planners, and designers
are often faced with the
question, "How can we
do more with less to meet
today's ever-changing
demands?" Architects and
planners are challenged
to think beyond traditional
design solutions while
embracing the owner's
vision.
