Arizona offers plenty of good reasons for the

THIS YEAR the Healthcare Design Expo & Con-

ference will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, the third time the show
has landed in Arizona (Scottsdale in 2005 and
Phoenix in 2012). However, this is my first time
producing the show there, and I recently visited
to do a walkthrough of the site and get a feel for
what your experience will be like.
I landed in Phoenix around 1 p.m., and while
the airport was a little tricky to navigate mainly
due to renovations taking place, I quickly found
my Uber driver and we pulled up to the Hyatt Regency Phoenix about
15 minutes and $12 later (there's also a flat $17 taxi fare from the airport
to downtown). The Hyatt and Sheraton Grand Phoenix will both have
room blocks available for HCD Expo attendees and are a quick walk to
the nearby convention center.
The center is located in the heart of a vibrant, walkable downtown and
a short stroll from a variety of urban eateries, music venues, professional
sports arenas, art museums, and more. But I think you'll enjoy your time
indoors just as much. Upon entering the convention center, I was immediately struck by how the building's expansive three-story windows bring
in tons of natural light, producing the opposite of a cave-like feeling I've
experienced in other locations.
Our goal in selecting a venue for HCD is to find one that can accommodate a large conference (including a ballroom for keynote sessions
and awards presentations) and an expo hall close by. I'm happy to report
that we've hit the mark here, too. The conference will be located on the
first and second levels of the North hall, with the expo taking place on the
third floor. From the expo, a sky bridge will quickly take attendees over
to the West hall, where keynote sessions will be held. Despite the building being quite large, the venue felt intimate and easy to navigate. A firstfloor food court offers the perfect place to enjoy a quick bite and relax
between sessions. And when your conference day is done, enjoy one of
more than 150 restaurants within walking distance.
In addition to the site tour, I attended our annual program design team
meeting while I was in town. And while finishing touches are still being
made to the conference program, I can tell you that it will definitely live
up to your high standards. We expect to present more than 100 educational sessions, offer tours of local facilities, and, of course, host our annual networking reception, sponsored by KI. While it may be tough to
beat the unbelievable Havana Nights party in 2017, our planners have
some new tricks up their sleeves that you won't want to miss.
Phoenix will be a perfect location for our upcoming show, and I look
forward to seeing you there. 
