establishment of its Whole
Child Health design approach
that's currently being implemented in several pediatric
institutions and harnesses design thinking to address eight
areas of influence, such as development, safety, socialization, and nature, on children's
health outcomes. Next on its
list is mental health and a mission to solve its enduring challenges including social stigma
and scarcity of beds. To that
end, CannonDesign bolstered its behavioral
health studio to make it one of the largest in
the country and is currently working on several
projects across numerous states. Additionally,
the firm is focused on innovating project delivery, specifically through the use of modular design and construction, partnering with ModularDesign+ to launch in-house modular design
and construction services.
The recent moves made by
CannonDesign strengthen the firm but also
respond to some of the most pressing challenges this industry faces. It's demonstrated an
understanding that healthcare systems must
treat patients for their individual needs all
while remaining nimble and ready for change.
CannonDesign's focus on behavioral health,
specifically, will help make waves in combating
the current behavioral health crisis by not just
playing a role in improving access and resources but adding to the industry's portfolio of mental health projects so everyone can benefit from
best practices and lessons learned that will begin to emerge. Similarly, its work in pediatric
care mirrors a national trend to bolster health
and wellness initiatives for children to help
support their success from the start and contribute to building stronger communities. Efforts like these put the firm's goal to help solve
clients'-and society's-greatest challenges
into action.

Founded more than
a century ago, CannonDesign is an integrated
design firm with 19 offices in North America and
India. The firm's team of 1,100 architects, engineers, interior designers, constructors, health
strategists, data analysts, and more create spaces
in healthcare, education, commercial, sports
and recreation, science and technology, and civic
sectors. Over the years, healthcare emerged as
about one-half of CannonDesign's business,
with projects delivered across scales and facility
types within academic medicine, acute care, behavioral health, cancer care, women's and children's, and multiple other specialties.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Over the last year, CannonDesign has gone through a radical transformation:
expanding service lines, bringing on new talent,
and making significant investments to expand
its influence on health and wellness, specifically.
It's an evolution the firm made in response to
clients' desire for partners that don't just design buildings but help them navigate through
the ever-evolving healthcare marketplace to
solve some of its wicked problems. To that end,
CannonDesign first turned its collective eyes
to children's health, seeing it as a foundational
step to improving wellness in communities (inspiring the firm's 2017 acquisition of pediatric
design firm FKP). Key to the initiative was the

WHAT'S NEXT: In the coming year, CannonDesign

will be collaborating with clients including Sheppard Pratt Health System, Kaiser Permanente,
Penn State Health, and Children's Hospital of Orange County to open projects including a school
of medicine, community hospitals, behavioral
