Ascend provides accommodation to patients and caregivers for
treatment, examination, rest, and even sleeping - all within the same
space, and without having to move the patient from the chair. With
a hand-held pendant, Ascend quickly converts to an exam table, and
back to a recliner. The patient or caregiver also uses the pendant
to adjust back and footrest position. When extended into the sleep
position, the platform height can be raised or lowered for exam use.
Optional fold down arms provides for unobstructed patient transfer with 30" wide transfer surface, and the base provides clearance
for portable patient lifts and over-bed tables. Infection control and
cleanability has been carefully considered, with seamless upholstery
between seat and back, and clearances to assist cleaning underneath
and inside the unit. Other options include removable stirrups which
are stored conveniently inside the chair, profile armrests to assist
with ingress/egress, and a Power/USB outlet. The Ascend mechanism is rated to 400 lbs. capacity, enabling bariatric utilization. The
modular construction of Ascend is a unique element as well: components that are damaged or degraded can be replaced, avoiding the
need to replace an entire unit.
Ascend contributes to quality of care through its combination of
functionality in a single unit, driving increases in efficiency for staff
and space utilization.

JURY COMMENTS:
* This product addresses a need for exam
spaces in a way that is attractive and
functional. Most exam spaces will have
either a recliner chair or an exam table,
neither of which meet every need that
a provider may have when examining a
patient. The Ascend product is a nicely
designed chair that also happens to be an
exam table, rather than an exam table that
is attempting to be a chair.
* This product provides valuable space
savings and flexibility by reducing the
variety of furnishings; seating, sleeping,
exam. It also enables the patient to get onto
the exam table without awkwardly climbing
up onto the exam surface. This would be
particularly helpful for those patients with
impaired mobility, such as the elderly.
* The product gracefully integrates a
plethora of functions without complexity
or bulk.
* The Ascend really allows us to conceal
medical devices from view, no more
clinical looking exam table. It's a chair...
it's a table!

Architectural Walls with Vacuum Plumbing System

MedSpace Innovations allows interior designers and end-users to design their interior
space to best serve the patient, both at first occupancy and also anytime during in-use
operations. The vacuum-based plumbing system routes service and waste lines up
through modular walls and across ceiling cavities. Plumbing fixtures are no longer tied
to floor-cored locations.
Without the need for floor coring, trenching, or continuous gravity slope, virtually
any available space can be repurposed to medical with ease, including under-utilized
commercial or retail space with limited floor-to-floor clearances. Once in use, the
entire system of modular walls, cabinets, doors, and plumbing is completely 'plug
and play' and easily reconfigured to adapt to new delivery care models and acquired
practices and equipment. Acoustical privacy ratings for the walls can exceed 2018 FGI
Guidelines.
Environmental sustainability is a key mission behind the MedSpace system. The
modular wall systems are designed to be movable and extremely durable, allowing
the walls to be reused across several reconfigurations. The reusable quality of the
walls reduces waste and landfill volume as compared to tearing down and rebuilding
conventional gypsum board walls.
The vacuum plumbing system is also
environmentally friendly. Each vacuum
toilet fixture requires only 0.4 gallons per
flush, which reduces both water and sewer
usage by nearly 75%.

* Recognizing that population health and
preventative health initiatives are driving
ambulatory care into local communities in
many forms, this product enables an almost
"pop-up" ambulatory clinic in any building
type through its flexible, adaptable and
comprehensive package of walls, fit-out and
utilities. Modular systems are not new, but
effectively integrating the utility component
through a vacuum plumbing provision is a
game changer.
* The ability to speed construction, not impact
spaces below for plumbing requirements,
and maintain sound control with a vacuum
plumbing system give tremendous flexibility to
renovations and adaptive reuse of buildings/
spaces at a reasonable price.
* Vertical removal of water and waste using
vacuum suction thru ceiling allowing ease of
construction in existing spaces and reducing
overall renovation duration. Flexibility for
reconfiguration, beautiful design and details,
and focus on speed to market in the outpatient
setting.
