MOODY Open-faced lighting instruments for tungstenhalogen lamps have been accepted as the new standard for motion picture and television production over the past few years. However, the theatre has not exploited this significant mechanical advance. Some older open-faced instruments, suchas the beam projector and the scoop, have been used, but these were not designed specifically for the tungsten-halogen lamp. Furthermore, their use has been very slight. Actually, there has not been a technical breakthrough in instrument design since the ellipsoidal reflector spotlight was introduced in 1 932.
