For the convenience of the audience two refreshment rooms were installed. One for the ground floor and the mezzanine is located in the basement foyer in front of the central cloak room. Audiences from the first and second balconies will find refreshment on the second floor (Fig. 9). The small lounges at the sides, one on the ground floor and an official one on the first floor broaden the space for promenading of the audience. The extent of the reconstruction of the stage part of the theatre (F ig. 10) was much more su bstantial. By demolishing and opening up the rear part of the stage its depth was extended by 10 meters. The narrowing of its catwalks helped towards a broadening of the stage space. After all the adjustments, the stage dimensions are now 19 x 19 meters, the actual performance area is 16 x 18 meters. A small back stage was also newly built; it leads directly to a small hydraulic hoist for the transportation of sets on pallettes from their storage room situated in the second basement. The light bridge was moved upstage. In the space it occupied, three new line sets have been installed. They have been designed for a movie screen, a revue curtain and the addition of a full scrim curtain at a later date. As a consequence of new and stricter fire-fighting ordinances, the old curtain was taken down and a new one was substituted.
