Certain movements controlled the volume or the tempo of the music being played, while others could change the location of the sound in the space. The dancer's movements controlled even the actual start and stop of the music. The presentation was truly eye opening as to the possibilities that new technology offers us for controlling and producing audio. 30 theatre design & technology f a l l 2012 There were plenty of other sessions to attend during the week as well. Christopher Kulesa and Jason Waggoner from d&b audiotechnik continued their series on "demystifying audio." We were treated to several student sound designers presenting their work. Shannon Slaton joined us to give us some insight on mixing musicals. And as usual the sound playback party was well attended and enjoyed by all. Because of the generosity of all our commercial supporters and the work of members of the Sound Commission, and especially the tireless team of students from multiple schools, the Sound Lab project was a rousing success. It was great to see how many people were able to get hands-on experience with equipment and programs. It was great to see students working with professionals, developing contacts, and learning new skills. And it was great to see what had started as almost an afterthought become a reality. The Sound Commission and many of the vendors and students who worked on the 2012 version are determined that the Sound Lab will be back at USITT in 2014.
