Production Statement The notion of time in The Adding Machine and the cyclical and mechanical nature of Zero's existence are central to the design concept. The production is set in a world of machines. A steampunk design aesthetic projects a worn and tired machine whose gears continue to endlessly grind. Each scene change creates a new space that Zero navigates unsuccessfully over the course of the play, and in the end, he finds himself right back where he started. summer 2012 theatre design & technology 45
