Rule Takes Effect
A new ordinance aims to keep
waters clean along the Port of
Oakland's 20 miles of San Francisco Bay
shoreline.
The stormwater ordinance, as
passed by the Port of Oakland Board
of Port Commissioners, took effect in
April and gives port staff authority to
meet Clean Water Act requirements
by enforcing tight limits on runoff,
according to an April 6 statement.

NS Cutting Emissions
at Locomotive Shop
Norfolk Southern Corp. has
launched a $53 million energy
conversion project at its locomotive
shop in Juniata County, Pa.
The endeavor, which includes
replacing coal boilers with natural gas
heaters, is targeted for completion in
late 2017 and is anticipated to significantly reduce carbon emissions and
water usage at the 70-acre facility.

UPS Announces
CNG Investments
UPS Inc. has unveiled plans to build
15 compressed natural gas fueling
stations to support the purchase and
planned deployment of 1,400 new CNG
vehicles over the next year.
According to an April 1 statement,
UPS already has an industry-leading
fleet of alternative fuel and advanced
technology vehicles.

Prince Rupert Hub
United Arab Emirates-based DP
World Ltd. has agreed to acquire Maher
Terminals LLC's Fairview Container
Terminal at the Port of Prince Rupert,
British Columbia, from Deutsche Bank.
The US$457 million transaction,
subject to Canadian regulatory
approvals, is anticipated to occur in the
second half of 2015, according to an
April 2 DP World statement.
"We are delighted to extend our
global footprint with a second terminal
in Canada," said Sultan Ahmed Bin
Sulayem, DP World's chairman. He
noted that DP World already operates
