IANA Adds a New Senior Vice President Recognizing IANA's continued growth in membership as well as service and program offerings, the Board approved the creation of a Keppler new leadership position at the association. Stephen A. Keppler has joined IANA as senior vice president. Keppler's responsibilities will extend throughout the organization. These include overseeing the Member Services and Conferences/Events departments and developing new businesses for the association's Information Services. Keppler brings nearly two dozen years of experience in truck safety and freight transportation issue management. Most recently he was the executive director of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, a position he held since 2009. Before joining CVSA, he served as director of vehicle systems at Intelligent Transportation Society of America, the nation's largest organization dedicated to advancing the research, development and deployment of intelligent transportation systems. Prior to that, Keppler worked six years with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration Office of Motor Carriers, which would later become the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. His roles there included conducting field compliance reviews and roadside inspections. He holds two bachelor's degrees - in civil engineering and architectural engineering - from Drexel University and lives in Ellicott City, Md., with his wife, Dana, and sons Alexander and Elliott. Port Everglades, FECR Look to Showcase ICTF As Florida East Coast Railway's intermodal container transfer facility at Port Everglades enters its second year of operation, officials of both the railroad and the south Florida port are celebrating success. James R. Hertwig, FECR's president and chief executive officer, cited a 26 percent increase in volume following the July 2014 move to the at-port ICTF from offsite yard facilities. "This is a terrific milestone that validates the investment made by FECR, Port Everglades, the state of Florida and Broward County - one that will have long-lasting benefits for the community by reducing road congestion and greenhouse gas emissions." "The ICTF ensures that Port Everglades is competitive with other U.S. East Coast gateways, and, most importantly, gives South Florida a cost and time-tomarket advantage over many of these gateways," said Steven M. Cernak, Port Everglades' chief executive and port director. The $53 million, 43-acre FECR facility, developed via a public-private partnership, expects a further boost in activity in September, as a second outbound train is added. This would make two daily trains heading north to Jacksonville in addition to two inbound trains. Juan Flores (left), Port Everglades' assistant to the port director for intermodal programs, joins Bill Greenough, Florida East Coast Railway assistant trainmaster, in pointing out the success of FECR's atport intermodal container transfer facility. The ICTF features three GPS-driven Mi-Jack overhead cranes, 11 terminal tractors, 21,000 feet of processing and storage tracks, separate domestic and international gate complexes and aroundthe-clock surveillance. It is one of numerous recent enhancements at Port Everglades. The containerport, Florida's busiest, annually handles more than 1 million 20-footequivalent container units. Port Everglades and Florida East Coast Railway are co-host sponsors of Intermodal EXPO 2015. A space-available tour of the ICTF is part of this year's EXPO experience.
