IN BRIEF Celadon Trucking announced the official launch of its WageLock program through which company drivers can earn up to $1,000 a week, regardless of how many miles they drive. Union Pacific Railroad opened its new $40 million Kinney County Railport. Located between Eagle Pass and Brackettville, Texas, the facility will clean and prepare rail cars to meet food-grade guidelines so they are ready to be loaded by customers in Mexico and returned to the United States for product distribution. Kansas City Southern Railway Co. announced it will spend $6.5 million on rail and bridge improvements on its Vicksburg Subdivision in Louisiana. Separately, together with Schneider, KCS delivered its first shipment of pet food to Kansas City Southern de Mexico S.A. de C.V.'s Puerta Mexico intermodal facility, part of a pilot program to facilitate the transport of regulated commodities into Mexico. UPS plans to spend $300 million to triple the size of its Centennial ground package sorting facility in Louisville, KY. The facility provides pickup and delivery operations in surrounding counties and serves as a transfer point for trailers moving to destinations beyond Kentucky. Hapag-Lloyd raised roughly $300 million from its initial public offering, which, according to the company, will be spent on new ships and containers. Sioux Falls, S.D. purchased a downtown rail yard from BNSF Railway Co. for $27.3 million, including federal funds. The purchase agreement removes the majority of the rail yard in the city's downtown, while BNSF will retain two mainline tracks through the downtown area. Norfolk Southern Railway broke ground on a $70 million project to build a new 900-foot, single-track, steel arch railroad bridge over the Genesee River Gorge in New York's Letchworth State Park. Additionally, NS will construct 1,200 feet of new track on either side of the gorge to align existing tracks with the new bridge. At its Brosnan Forest timber and wildlife preserve near Dorchester, S.C., 35 miles northwest of Charleston, NS will also restore 290 acres of historic pocosin wetlands. Logistical Labs is offering a door-to-door intermodal booking system for CSX and some NS truckrail service, widening the use of its mode optimization program known as LoadDex. 12 Intermodal Insights | December 2015 CakeBoxx Technologies has introduced its TrusDek two-part cargo shipping container featuring a one-piece lid that locks to the bottom deck. The TrusDek and lid can be handled by all standard container handling equipment. TAL International Group will merge with Triton Container International to create a container fleet of about 5 million TEUs. Port commissioners have authorized exclusive negotiations between the Port of Oakland and industrial real estate developer CenterPoint Properties on the next phase of a 170-acre Seaport Logistics Complex. Columbia Group has opened a new 12-acre intermodal chassis depot in Bayonne, N.J. Chassis leasing company TRAC Intermodal will be the first customer to join the depot. The Georgia Ports Authority and South Carolina Ports Authority have signed a new agreement that provides the necessary framework for the two states to develop the Jasper Ocean Terminal, which will be jointly owned and operated by both port authorities. Meanwhile, GPA was awarded $900,000 from the EPA under the Diesel Emission Reduction Act program to provide owner-operators with rebates and financing for replacing their 2009 or older truck engines. Atlantic Container Line has taken delivery of The Atlantic Star, the first of five new container/rollon vessels and the largest ever built in the world.
