People in the News C.H. Robinson Worldwide has appointed Robert Biesterfeld as president of North American Surface Transportation. Biesterfeld had Biesterfeld most recently served as vice president of truckload for the company. He replaces Scott Satterlee. The American Trucking Associations' Board of Directors elected Pat Thomas as the federation's 71st chairman. Thomas is senior vice president of state government affairs for UPS. He replaces Duane Long, chairman of Raleigh, N.C.based Longistics, as the ATA chairman. As the new executive vice president and chief sales officer for Ryder System Inc., John Gleason will lead all the company's sales functions. He most recently held the position of senior vice president of sales for Ryder's Fleet Management Solutions business segment. United Arab Shipping Co. appointed Stuart Sandlin as president of its North American organization. He was formerly vice president of sales at Hapag-Lloyd America. Christina E. Correale has been named director of harbor development by the Maryland Port Administration. She had been a principal of EcoLogix Group for the past five years where she served as a senior advisor to the Maryland Port Administration on dredged material management projects.
