Annual Report 2022 - 7

W
hen I gave my Incoming Address as
President-Elect at the 2019 Annual
Convention, I had no idea what was
about to happen in early 2020 and
everything that would come after it.
I also had no idea that as a result, I'd still be here, as IBAO
President at the end of 2022. Not knowing what was just
over the horizon, I opened my 2019 speech with the
following-my vision of the future for the Association:
Here's what I see for the future of our industry. I see a
broker channel that's growing in influence every year.
I see a cemented relationship with insurers that
supports our dominance as leaders in product
and service; their most reliable and consistently
profitable delivery model. I see governments relying
on our proactive approach, advocating for fairness
and stability for Ontario consumers. I see technology
solutions that help brokers work in the most efficient
ways possible, allowing us to deliver the best customer
service, regardless of the insurer.
I see a lot of new, young professionals joining
the broker channel, our teams, and the broader
insurance community. I see a new generation
of leaders developing within our brokerages, within
our Association and within our affiliates, pushing
forward with fresh ideas and renewed energy.
I see an Association focused on growth, stability
and engagement. I see a spike in Association
membership, with a renewed sense of strength and
collaboration. Clearly, I see a bright future for Ontario
brokers and the IBAO.
During my extended tenure as your IBAO
President, as chaotic as events have been
during my time as President, I've had the
pleasure of watching nearly all of those
predictions come true. But this has less to do
with powers of prediction, than it does with
this Association's ability to move us all forward,
no matter how strong the headwinds are.
I'm proud to have been your President for
these three years. You're an exceptional
group and getting to stand up for you as your
representative has been my privilege. I ended
that Address, by saying that you all had the
ability within you to achieve that vision I had
laid out. That you were Empowered.
In the years since then, I've seen how you've
overcome obstacles. How you've embraced
new technology. Pivoted business models.
Adapted. Evolved. How you've come out even
stronger.
I could not have predicted the challenges
we'd face, but I knew that brokers and our
Association would thrive. Thank you for
everything each of you contributed that made
my vision for us a reality. And thank you for
allowing me to be a part of it.
Joseph Carnevale
IBAO President
