ost people aren't able
to say their first job out
of University was in
the industry the rest of
their career would revolve around, but
that wasn't the case with Brett. After
graduating from the University of Western
with a Business Degree, she landed a
position as Assistant to George Cooke,
CEO of The Dominion, now Travelers
Canada. "Working there helped shape
my philosophy on insurance brokers.
Understanding the value brokers bring,
how the insurance industry works and the
role a broker plays in the whole ecosystem,
I learned from George. Following him
around for a couple of years and listening
to him talk was the best insurance training
you could ever have."

Brett started at the IBAO in 2013 as
the Director of Communications &
Broker Relations and is now the Director
of Operations. Through a series of
transformations within the association, she
became involved in advocacy, education
and event planning before settling into her
current role.
"I wanted to work at the IBAO because
I really believe in the important role
a broker plays within the insurance
process. I didn't know it then, but I
know now-having a strong association
to back any profession is crucial to
the health of an industry. I'm proud of
the reputation the IBAO has amongst
different industry circles and truly
believe in the value of the broker."

Growing up in Uxbridge, Ontario, as the
oldest of five siblings, she explains where
her natural leadership ability stemmed from.
"My parents had five daughters in eight
years, so we're all very close. That's why
I'm so bossy, because I'm used to being in
charge and the one everyone would turn to
for making plans or decisions." Her family
continues to live in the Uxbridge/Stouffville
area except for Brett, who lives in Toronto.
Over the past year, Brett had beautiful
twin daughters, Nell and Perry, who will
celebrate their first birthday on July 20th.
While they may be twins, they have very
different personalities. "Perry is the alpha
twin and wants to be the center of attention,
while Nell is physically more advanced and
already walking and opening drawers."

An epicure at heart, Brett and her
husband Curtis have a love of food and
plan their travel destinations around it,
including the Kentucky Bourbon Trail,
Quebec Cheese Trail and Belgium Beer
Tour. "When we were cool, we used to
write our own food blog and critique
different restaurants downtown. We're
not really that cool anymore and we're
out of the scene, but our idea of a good
date night is to go out for a really great
dinner."
If you happen to grab a drink with Brett
at an upcoming insurance function, ask
her for a recommendation on a good
bourbon or the best ski destinations,
and be prepared for her to ask you weird
icebreaker questions in return.
