INSPIRE TO LEAD
utting together this issue of The Ontario Broker magazine was
an absolute joy and pleasure. This issue's theme-leadership-is
quite fitting as it's my first as Editor of the magazine and in my
role as Interim VP, Marketing & Communications. Both of these
new roles here at the IBAO are added to many others that I take pride
in -Mama, Wife, Sister, Daughter and Friend. Norah has left me big shoes
to fill while she's away for the next year and both of these roles require
various forms of leadership.
The term leadership can be fraught with so many clichés. We can all
relate to the flood of inspirational quotes and mantras that are constantly
served via social media or the listicles headlined: " 5 Must Dos To Be A
Good Leader " or " The Qualities You Must Have To Be A Leader. " The
constant flood of information on overload can be anxiety inducing.
It's true, leadership is an essential piece of life's puzzle. But many of us
don't realize the leadership role we play in our everyday lives, regardless
of title. If the past two years have proven anything, it's that everyone is
leader in their own capacity. From providing crucial support to our family
members, children and friends or cheering on work colleagues through
their lows but also the highest of highs. It's clear, perhaps now more than
ever that leadership has taken on many different shapes. Leadership
today means so much more.
This issue is filled with great leaders, who are interpreting the meaning
of their role in their own community. It was an honour to be able to speak
with and learn more about so many. I hope reading it, you'll feel inspired
to continue growing as the leader you already are.
