LETTER FROM THE IEEE PRESIDENT AND AWARDS BOARD CHAIR
Dear IEEE Members, Honorees, Colleagues, and Friends:
The IEEE Medal, Recognition, and Technical Field Award recipients honored in this booklet are an
extraordinary group of innovators who have made astounding contributions to technology, science,
engineering, and IEEE. Through their profound work, the honorees have helped IEEE highlight the world's
leading technologies for the benefi t of humanity and society.
Many of the technologies we use in our everyday lives are results of the tireless efforts of these pioneers. Their
contributions range from the co-creation of the Internet architecture and real-time control of complex robotics
systems to the development of the QR Code and much more. In addition, our honorees are responsible for
helping thousands of people via the invention of the cochlear implant and technologies that make cancer
screening for women more accessible and less invasive. The endeavors of these great minds have helped
accelerate technological advancements and are paving the way for future work.
As we gather and reconnect with friends, peers, and colleagues in person again at the 2023 IEEE Vision,
Innovation, and Challenges (VIC) Summit and Honors Ceremony, it is a wonderful opportunity to hear from
technical experts and build connections with some of the most notable engineers, scientists, and icons in the world.
During the evening gala, we will celebrate the remarkable achievements of the IEEE Medal and Recognition
recipients that have created a better world for us.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our generous awards sponsors and to all the volunteers,
nominators, endorsers, partners, and professional staff-without whom these award presentations would not
