of things, flexible and wearable
circuit technologies, mixed-signal and
low power RF integrated circuits, neuromorphic
computing and AI, emerging
non-volatile memories and exploratory
computational electronics.
D. SUTD
Being an interdisciplinary university, the circuits and
systems activities at the Singapore University of Technology
and Design (SUTD) are tightly integrated with
education, research, and industry to address the emerging
technologies in AI, cryptography, future communications,
internet of things, robotics, and smart power
electronics. SUTD faculty has created integrated circuit
design courses aimed at addressing the current need of
industries, such as Brain-inspired Computing course for
state-of-the-art Neuromorphic ICs and Design of Intelligent
Digital Integrated Circuits and Systems, focused on
nurturing young talents in integrated circuit design field
with extensive knowledge of semiconductors. Other
projects SUTD has worked on includes partnering Changi
General Hospital on developing a wearable device by
leveraging novel sensors, circuits, and machine learning
algorithms to facilitate a lightweight system for heat
injury prediction. They have also developed new communication
circuits and systems for high-speed wireless
transmission with more than 1 Gbps data rates, such as
the VIRTUS' 60GHz chipset.
The circuits and systems faculty namely Prof
Kiat Seng Yeo, Prof Bo Wang, Dr Tee Hui Teo and Dr
Bharatha Kumar conducts research and applications
in VLSI design, low-power electronics, visible light
communication, RF/mm-wave IC design, neuromorphic
computing, image/video processing, analysis, compression
and communication, system-on-chip design,
signal processing as well as pattern recognition and
computer vision.

Prof. Sanjit K. Mitra is Elected to Foreign Associate
of the Engineering Academy of Japan

r. Sanjit K. Mitra, Distinguished Professor Emeritus
of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University
of California, Santa Barbara, has been elected
recently to the Engineering Academy of Japan (EAJ) as
a foreign associate. EAJ is composed of leading experts
from academia, industry, and government institutions
who possess a wide range of knowledge and have made

outstanding contributions in engineering and technological
sciences, and closely related fields, according to
the academy's website (https://www.eaj.or.jp/?page_id=
13818). EAJ is a non-profit, non-governmental organization
to contribute to the advancement of engineering and
technological sciences. Dr. Mitra was recognized for his
contributions to signal processing. Since its establishment
in 1987, the EAJ has grown to over 800 individual
Japanese members and 27 foreign associates (nonresidents
of Japan), including six from the United States.
