IEEE SSCS Columbus Joint Chapter Chair's Business Wins
US$1.2 Million From Department of Defense

A

An IC design business started by IEEE
Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS)
and IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Columbus Joint Chapter Chair
Ramy Tantawy was recently awarded
US$1.2 million from the U.S. Department of Defense. Tantawy founded
his company, SenseICs, in collaboration with Dr. Dale Shane Smith in
early 2017. The pair started SenseICs
to capitalize on their joint expertise
in industry and academic electronics engineering. Since that time, SenseICs has been developing IC design
capabilities for advanced imaging,
trusted microelectronics, secure 5G,
and high-radiation environments.
Most recently, SenseICs received
funding through two awards from
different offices of the Department
of Defense. The first was a US$1
million two-year U.S. Army Phase 2
Small Business Innovation Research
Award, which SenseICs was given
to develop an intelligent, high-dynamic-range-readout IC that can be
used in short- and medium-wave

a US$200,000, one-year award for
winning the U.S. Air Force Research
Laboratory's Gallium Nitride (GaN)
Power Amplifier (PA) Design Challenge, in which SenseICs proposed to
demonstrate a broadband PA design
for secure 5G network applications.
